With Nicolás Otamendi nearing the end of his deal at Benfica and seemingly close to concluding a six-season stint, a hypothetical ChatGPT exercise has outlined six potential replacements.
Record writes that it asked ChatGPT to assess the ideal successor, one who offers more than defending by leading and organising the back line.
Key traits highlighted included the ability to command the defence, play out cleanly under pressure, strong positioning, effective tackling, aerial strength and competency in one-on-one duels.
Among the more highly rated, and harder to land, were Facundo Medina, on loan from Lens to Marseille, Piero Hincapié of Arsenal, and David Hancko of Atlético de Madrid. They bring experience, quality in build-up and a strong competitive presence, but would demand significant investment from Benfica.
More attainable options identified were Santiago Ramos Mingo of Bahia, Nicolás Romero at Minnesota United and Raux-Yao at Rapid Wien, centre-backs with room to develop though not yet at the top level.
