Chelsea and PSG approached Zidane before he agreed to take France job | OneFootball

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to become the next coach of the Franch national team, replacing Didier Deschamps.

Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Al Hilal had approached Zidane over the possibility of becoming their manager before he agreed to take charge of France, according to Diario AS.

There have been flurry of changes on the Chelsea bench under the BlueCo ownership, with Enzo Maresca the latest to leave. The Italian was replaced by Liam Rosenior in January.

Meanwhile, there had been uncertainty surrounding Luis Enrique’s future as PSG manager. Enrique is now close to accepting a new contract that would make him one of the highest-paid managers in the world.

Al Hilal also reportedly offered Zidane ‘millions of euros’. They have been faring well under manager Simeone Inzaghi, who was appointed last summer.

Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid managerial position in 2021.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner has been linked with several managerial positions since then, but had long set his sights on becoming France’s head coach.

Zidane enjoyed great success in his two spells at Madrid, winning the Champions League three times in a row. He also won La Liga and the Club World Cup twice.

He will now aim to replicate that success with France, who have flourished under Deschamps, who guided them to World Cup and UEFA Nations League titles.

Expectations will be high for Zidane if he takes charge, particularly if France win this summer’s World Cup.
