Chelsea cannot sign Xavi Simons without selling players | OneFootball

Chelsea have still not made a breakthrough in their bid to sign RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons (h/t journalist Philipp Hinze).

The Blues must first make sales before a transfer to Stamford Bridge is possible for the 22-year-old who bagged 11 goals and eight assists last term.

Chelsea have been trying to get a deal for Simons over the line, but nothing has materialised. Red Bull chief executive officer Oliver Mintzlaff is involved in negotiations.

The club are keen to offload numerous players this summer, including Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, Ben Chiwell, Raheem Sterling and Christopher Nkunku.

However, other clubs know Chelsea’s squad is bloated and are waiting to approach these players with late loan moves, leaving them in a precarious position.

Chelsea must sign Simons

Chelsea need Simons in their midfield. He is a ‘difference-maker‘.

They need someone who can take the ball and drive them upfield, especially when faced with deep blocks.

Signing has proved to be difficult, even though there is optimism that a deal will go through before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea could approach the Simons deal with a smarter strategy by leveraging Leipzig’s interest in their players.

They have been tracking Nkunku, who previously shone for them, and promising winger Tyrique George.

Packaging either or both into negotiations could help bridge the financial gap and sweeten discussions, ensuring Chelsea are forced into cut-price sales elsewhere.

Leipzig are familiar with Nkunku’s qualities and would view George as a valuable long-term project.

By structuring the transfer this way, Chelsea could reduce the cash burden, offload fringe players, and finally sign Simons.
