Chelsea defender Millie Bright has undergone minor surgery on her knee.

The Blues revealed the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 31-year-old centre-back pulled out of contention for England selection for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 earlier this week. Bright released a personal statement that explained that her withdrawal was as a result of mental and physical factors. The defender felt that she was not in a position to give her absolute all for her country at this summer’s tournament.

It has now been confirmed that Bright needed surgery on a minor knee problem and she has swiftly gone under the surgeon’s knife. The player will immediately begin her rehabilitation with the full support of the Chelsea medical staff.

It has been a long season for Bright. The player made 36 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions with all of those outings coming in the form of starts. She equalled her highest number of games in a season at club level. Bright helped Chelsea to win the domestic treble for just the second time in their history.

With Bright not involved at this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO, the player has the opportunity to rest and recover ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
