Chelsea defender Nouwen secures PSV return | OneFootball

Chelsea defender Aniek Nouwen has re-joined former club PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 26-year-old centre-back joined Chelsea from PSV back in summer 2021. The player gruadually eased her way into the side and she was able to make 22 appearances for The Blues in 2021/2022 in which she scored one goal.

After her first season in South West London, Nouwen struggled for game time and she joined Italian Serie A Femminile Ebay club AC Milan on loan.

Upon her return to Chelsea, Nouwen continued to find minutes hard to come by while long-term injury hindered her progress further. After returning to fitness last season, the defender spent a period on loan at the Barclays Women’s Super League’s bottom club Crystal Palace.

Nouwen’s return to homely surroundings at PSV should allow her to get back to her very best. In her previous spell at the club, Nouwen carved out a reputation for being one of the most exciting young prospects in the Dutch club game.

The defender has been out of the picture at international level over the last couple of years and she will be hoping that the move also bolsters her chances of a recall to the Dutch national team.
