The Stamford Bridge hierarchy have identified the 28-year-old as a cost-effective candidate to replace Marc Cucurella, who recently joined Real Madrid.
The Blues have previously prioritised high-value young prospects, but recognise a pressing need for experienced players to balance the squad as they prepare for life under manager Xabi Alonso.
Chavarria made 44 appearances across all competitions last term, helping his side navigate a gruelling schedule that included a run to the Europa Conference League final.
Signing the Spanish defender would represent a pragmatic shift in Chelsea’s recruitment strategy.
Chavarria’s versatility is a key asset – he is comfortable operating as a traditional left-back in a back four or stepping forward into a left-midfield role.
He recently signed a long-term contract at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, which runs until June 2030 and includes a release clause.
Chelsea are now considering making an offer for Chavarria, who is also attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
The lure of Stamford Bridge represents a significant opportunity for the defender to secure a move to one of Europe’s giants.
However, with the impending arrival of Marco Palestra, who is an option for both full-back positions, Chavarria may be a luxury they do not need.
