Chelsea have formulated a plan to get Mykhailo Mudryk’s career back on track after spending a long time away from football.
The 25-year-old was once rated as one of Europe’s most promising young attackers. However, he struggled to adapt to life at Chelsea, and a doping ban halted his progress even further.
However, Chelsea are ready to help him begin his long road back by sending him on loan to RC Strasbourg (h/t Foot Mercato).
Mudryk hasn’t played for Chelsea since scoring in a 2-0 win over Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League in November 2024.
He has now spent over a year serving a suspension after being found guilty of doping. With the Ukrainian forward nearing the end of his suspension, his next steps have become a major topic of discussion.
Mudryk still has five years left on his existing contract with Chelsea.
There have been rumours that they may opt to terminate his contract, but Chelsea are unwilling to forfeit their €100 million investment on the Ukrainian international.
Rather than cutting their losses, Chelsea are determined to give Mudryk another shot at redeeming himself at the top level.
He needs regular first-team opportunities to rebuild his confidence and sharpness. He’s more likely to get regular football at Strasbourg than with Chelsea.
Moving to Strasbourg would give Mudryk the chance to compete at the highest level while taking some of the pressure off playing under the Premier League spotlight.
If he performs in Ligue 1, it would increase Chelsea’s chances of recouping their significant investment in the winger.
The Blues are currently in a battle to secure a top-four finish. They’re also preparing for a crucial Champions League last 16 second leg battle against Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge.
