The 32-year-old has scored 55 goals in just 49 games across all competitions, as part of a Bayern team that has won the Bundesliga with a record-breaking goal total.

No Englishman has won the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001, though Kane has received backing from an unusual source.

Despite Kane’s status at London rivals Tottenham, where he is the club’s record scorer, Chelsea forward Pedro has opened up on his respect for the England captain.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, Pedro praised Kane as a player that he admires and said he is capable of winning this year’s award.

“He was already having extraordinary numbers in the Premier League, but now seeing him at Bayern, we can really get a picture of the quality that Harry Kane possesses.

“I have a lot of admiration for him. I played against him when I was at Watford and he was at Tottenham, and he totally dominated the game. I’m always rooting for him because he’s a fantastic player.

“Can he win the Ballon d’Or? In my opinion, yes. Because he’s an extraordinary player.”
