Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, leaving the Blues frustrated after a lacklustre display on the south coast.
The match started at a lively pace, but early VAR drama set the tone. Antoine Semenyo appeared to score for the hosts inside the opening five minutes, only for the goal to be chalked off after a review flagged an offside. Chelsea’s defence breathed a sigh of relief, and the game settled into a cagey rhythm.
The Cherries were the first side to threaten again, with Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier testing Chelsea keeper Robert Sánchez with shots from inside the box and long-range efforts.
However, the Blues responded through Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, and Alejandro Garnacho, each coming close but failing to convert promising positions. Garnacho even hit the post midway through the second half, the nearest either side came to breaking the deadlock.
Chelsea made several substitutions to inject energy, bringing on João Pedro and Estevão, while Bournemouth rotated Enes Unal and David Brooks, yet neither team could find a breakthrough.
Both defences held firm, and a series of off-target attempts and solid goalkeeping kept the scoreline at 0-0.
The match ended without any goals, leaving Enzo Maresca's side disappointed after failing to close the gap following Arsenal’s defeat. They remain fourth, eight points behind the leaders, while Andoni Iraola's men celebrated a hard-earned point against one of the league’s bigger sides, moving up to 13th.
