The hosts took the lead inside the opening 64 seconds of the game after Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Gauci failed to deal with Pedro Neto’s corner and Jorrel Hato finished from close-range.
Moments later, the Valiants could’ve responded immediately when Rhys Walters dragged his effort to the back post, but Ben Waine couldn’t reach the pass in time.
In the 25th minute, Joao Pedro doubled the Blues’ advantage after Neto latched onto a long ball from Andrey Santos, who then squared the ball across to the Brazilian to finish into the bottom corner.
Just before the break, Chelsea got their third via an own goal as Malo Gusto’s strike was parried by Gauci into the path of Cole Palmer, whose effort came off Jordan Gabriel and into his own net.
Five minutes after the restart, Chelsea almost got a fourth as Santos picked out the run of Estevao Willian, but his first-time effort came off the post.
Just before the hour mark, Tosin Adarabioyo added a fourth for the Blues after he met Gusto’s cross with a thumping header.
Moments later, Estevao came close to scoring again as he almost picked out the bottom corner, but his effort struck the post.
Santos made it five in the 69th minute after he met Estevao’s corner from close range.
In the 82nd minute, Estevao got Chelsea’s sixth after Alejandro Garnacho struck the post and the youngster tapped home the rebound.
On the stroke of full time, Garnacho completed the scoring from the penalty spot, sending Gauci the wrong way.
Chelsea are set to make their seventh Wembley appearance in the last ten seasons.
