Chelsea have been handed an injury boost with Liam Delap available to face Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.
Enzo Maresca’s side make the trip to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.
Both teams head into the clash after progressing to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in midweek. For Chelsea, the positivity continues with Delap and midfielder Dario Essugo set to return to the squad this weekend.
“We are good. The ones that we left out for Cardiff are okay,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.
“Liam Delap and Dario Essugo are probably available for Aston Villa and Romeo [Lavia] is still out, Levi [Colwill] is still out.
“We said since his (Delap) injury, we didn’t know exactly for how long but he is progressing well.”
Chelsea will aim to improve a poor recent record in the North East. The Blues last won at St James’ Park in October 2021 and Maresca is anticipating another challenging contest.
“For me, it’s always difficult. Night or day, they are a very good team. Their manager is fantastic and has done a fantastic job for years.
“Sandro Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Miley also, they are all fantastic players, international players. They complete each other. They are physically strong and good on the ball. They are 100% complete, perfect. It’s difficult for any team to face them.”
