Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Cole Palmer could be available for this weekend’s clash with Brentford.
Palmer has missed the club’s last two Premier League fixtures after withdrawing in the warm-up against West Ham last month with a groin issue.
The 23-year-old sat out of England’s internationals during the September break, but has returned to Chelsea training this week.
Maresca confirmed that Palmer took some part in Thursday’s session and will train again on Friday to determine his fitness.
However, the Italian said Chelsea will take no risks with the midfielder as he recovers from injury. After facing Brentford, Chelsea travel to Bayern Munich in a crucial Champions League opener on Wednesday night.
“Cole took part in the session yesterday for the first time, not the entire session. We have one more session this afternoon and we are going to try with him to see if he’s okay, otherwise he will be out tomorrow,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.
“He is recovering from an injury, it’s not managing him, it’s recovering from an injury. When he is available, we need to manage him because of the amount of games.”
