Matt Law isn’t a Chelsea fan, but as someone who covers the club he sees everything that fans do, and feels pretty strongly about how things are going.
He’s been slamming the ownership and the sporting directors this week, but had some more positive things to say about the club’s direction when speaking on the London is Blue podcast this week.
Law compared Chelsea’s situation to Manchester United’s a year ago:
“I still think they’re probably only one or two good transfer windows away from actually pushing on,” he explained.
“Man United with one good summer transfer window and went from 14th to 3rd because of it… I know it looks impossible when you look at it, when you’re in the midst of it. But actually a lot can be done with a good transfer window and a good coach coming in.”
He’s not wrong that things can change quickly – the issue is more than the direction of the club makes a “good transfer window” close to impossible.
You can see Law speaking in the clip embedded here:
Liam Rosenior got himself in a bit of trouble at Chelsea for his communication style, and it looks like things were heading the same way at Strasbourg too.
Andoni Iraola has emerged as a top candidate for the Chelsea job – but Manchester United are keen on him too.
