Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has omitted Enzo Fernández from the next two fixtures after the midfielder’s recent comments about his future. According to Hounslow Herald, the Argentina international will sit out Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the upcoming Premier League meeting with Manchester City.

Fernández questioned whether he would still be at Stamford Bridge next season when speaking after last month’s Champions League exit. He also stressed there had been no talks with Real Madrid CF and said his focus remained on Chelsea.

Rosenior framed the decision around standards and culture, saying the remarks fell below what the club expects. He added the move had the backing of ownership, the sporting department and the dressing room.

While the sanction is significant, Rosenior insisted it is disciplinary rather than a permanent break, aimed at reinforcing accountability and emotional control in a young group learning to handle pressure.

The episode follows a bruising pre-break run in which Chelsea lost four consecutive games, including a heavy aggregate defeat to PSG in the Champions League. Rosenior suggested frustration from those results has led some players to speak too openly about their ambitions.

Marc Cucurella said a future return to Barcelona would be hard to refuse, then clarified he is happy in west London. Rosenior believes such comments stem from ambition rather than disloyalty, but he wants greater emotional control if Chelsea are to compete consistently. The team are sixth in the Premier League, six points off the Champions League places, so the coming weeks could shape whether his first half-season ends with European qualification.
