Chelsea loanee Mamadou Sarr will miss two matches for Strasbourg with a hamstring injury but has avoided surgery as it is only a muscular issue.
Standard Sport understands Chelsea are not concerned by the injury sustained by the 20-year-old centre-back, with Strasbourg opting to assess his situation during the upcoming international break.
He is out of Strasbourg’s Conference League match against Slovan Bratislava on Thursday night and will also miss the home Ligue 1 match against Angers on Sunday.
He is set to play no part in the international break itself, amid reports from Senegal that he has opted to change his international allegiance from France to the Senegalese.
Sources insist the injury is “just muscular” and that Sarr is expected back in action for Chelsea’s sister club after the October international break.
There are plans to plot a more accurate date for his return to training and match action during that break.
The former France youth international joined Strasbourg from Lyon in August 2024 for a fee of £8.7million.
In June this year he made the pre-agreed permanent move to Chelsea, signing on an eight-year contract, before being loaned back to Strasbourg on a 12-month loan deal at the beginning of August ahead of the start of the season.
He is seen by insiders at Chelsea as a future first-team player at Stamford Bridge, and his loan spell back with Strasbourg, where he played 27 times in the league last season, is viewed as an important step in his development.
