He becomes the most expensive British player in history, with the Blues breaking the record set by Manchester City earlier this summer, when Enzo Maresca’s side bought Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m.

Rogers, the versatile attacking midfielder, joins Chelsea off the back of a hugely successful last campaign at Villa Park, where he scored ten goals and assisted six in 37 Premier League appearances, while he notched three goals and five assists in Villa’s Europa League triumph.

Now, he takes the next step of his career at 23 years old, moving to west London to join Xabi Alonso’s project.

He will don the No17 shirt at Chelsea, which has not been vacant for too long as Andrey Santos wore it prior to completing a £50m move to Manchester United earlier in the month.

Rogers wore No17 for England during the World Cup, starting the semi-final loss to Argentina as well as the extraordinary bronze final win over France.

At Chelsea, the No17 has previously been worn at Chelsea by the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Mateo Kovacic.

Rogers wore No27 at Aston Villa, but that number is occupied by French right-back Malo Gusto.

“For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid,” Rogers said.

“I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading.

“That's why I'm here and I can't wait to get started.”
