A look back at Chelsea’s team ratings from the defeat to Everton at the weekend makes ugly reading.
The Blues have one player on a 4.3 rating according to FotMob’s rating system – goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who had another nightmare game. His early nerves on the ball almost gave away a goal, and spread panic through the team.
The first Everton goal can’t be put squarely on him, but certainly between him and Wesley Fofana you’d expect better co-ordination as Beto squeezed between them to score.
Then the second goal was a disaster – Sanchez let the shot through his legs and really sealed the result in that moment. The third was a superb strike he could do nothing about, but by that time it was too late already. His xG prevented was a hilarious -0.97. Another day to forget.
This team didn’t look like they had the belief to win this game whether or not Sanchez messed up. But having him in goal certainly reduced their chances of a result from slim to none.
Jorrel Hato played at centre back, and denied there was a confidence issue in the team.
Hato also denied that Everton’s pressing was what had put Chelsea off – but he ignores one very obvious fact about what the Toffees did.
