Chelsea’s players have had a quiet few days, with only 5 players starting for their national teams in the latest round of international fixtures.
A couple of others made appearances for their nations, but overall no one registered either a goal or an assist.
The biggest news involving a Chelsea player from the most recent fixtures was that Moises Caicedo was sent off for Ecuador in their 1-0 loss to Argentina.
Caicedo received his marching orders after getting two yellow cards, the second for a tackle on Nico Gonzalez.
The 23-year-old made very light contact on Gonzalez and was furious after being sent off.
Elsewhere, both Estevao and Joao Pedro came off the bench for Brazil and each played 29 minutes against Bolivia.
Estevao had started and scored against Chile in the first fixture of this international break. However Carlo Ancelotti opted for a more rotated side against Bolivia and paid the price.
The home side prevailed 1-0, and Ancelotti started Samuel Lino and Luis Henrique as the wingers.
Andrey Santos did start in the defeat, but struggled and was substituted in the 73rd minute.
Pedro Neto started against Hungary but failed to make an impact. Also in that game, Cristiano Ronaldo extended his run of getting either a goal or assist for club and country to 11 straight games.
Malo Gusto played 27 minutes off the bench against Iceland for France, as they won 2-1. Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola got the goals and Aurelien Tchouameni received a red card.
Reece James started against Serbia and again impressed, following his brilliant performance against Andorra where he registered an assist and a clean sheet.
Thomas Tuchel has always been a fan of James since he was the Chelsea manager. With the full-back’s return to fitness and brilliant form, it seems likely that he will be the starting right-back at the World Cup.
Marc Cucurella started in Spain’s 6-0 demolition of Turkey. He helped his team to a clean sheet, registered a pass accuracy of 90% and made seven recoveries. It was a well rounded performance from the left-back.
