Chelsea have scouts all over the world, and they will have seen some things in their time.
But their man in South America got to see something pretty special last night when watching Neyser Villarreal playing for Millionarios in Colombia.
The tricky attacker is known for his skills, and last night took things to the next level in the derby clash with Santa Fe in Bogota. With his team 2-0 up, Neyser jumped up and stood on the ball to provoke his opponents.
You can see Villarreal’s action in the image embedded below.
As you’d expect from a moment like that in a hotly contested derby game in South America, that quickly led to a major brawl. All of this while Chelsea’s scout was in the stands, according to The Sun.
Neyser Villareal stands on the ball to provoke the opposition.
When he’s not winding up the opposition, Villarreal looks a genuinely top talent. He was the star of his country’s efforts at South American Under-20 championships, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
This incident on the pitch isn’t the first time he’s been in trouble recently either – a wave of European interest in his services following that same tournament led to him missing training as he tried to force a move. He’s clearly now been reintegrated into the team – but it’s uncertain how long this will all last given there’s now major interest from teams all over.
After securing Andrey Santos and Estevao Willian from Brazil and Kendry Paez from Ecuador, it looks like Colombia could be the Blues’ next port of call as they continue to expand their portfolio of South American assets.
This guy looks box office in every way – we hope we get to see him in Europe at some stage, whether at Chelsea or elsewhere.
