Chelsea are getting closer to finalising a deal for Borussia Dortmund youngster Jamie Gittens in the summer transfer window.
The Blues have been trying to sign the winger for the past month, but were unable to come to an agreement with the German outfit before the Fifa Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich have also been competing for Gittens‘ signature, but it now appears that Chelsea will get their man in the very near future.
The Athletic report that the transfer “could be resolved imminently” as there is hope they can agree on a deal “swiftly”.
Despite Bayern’s interest, Gittens “favours” a move to Stamford Bridge and is “fully committed” to joining the UEFA Conference League champions.
Gittens has already agreed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, meaning the only thing that remains to be done for the deal to be completed is an agreement between the two clubs.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Dortmund, who are said to value the 20-year-old at £55 million, have been helped by the fact that they are both playing in the United States at the moment.
The west London side had also been linked with Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Nico Williams of Athletic Club amid uncertainty over the future of Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukrainian is facing a lengthy ban after testing positive for a banned substance.
Gittens turned down the chance to join Chelsea’s academy as a teenager, instead joining Manchester City’s setup from Reading.
The England U21 international moved to Dortmund in 2020 and made his Bundesliga debut two years later. He appeared as a late substitute in the 2024 Uefa Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, replacing Sancho.
Gittens enjoyed a breakthrough season for BVB in 2024/25, scoring 12 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
