Chelsea have completed the signing of Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract after the England midfielder mutually agreed to terminate his deal with Brentford.

The 36-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge following a single season with Brentford, where he made 32 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. Henderson now becomes the latest addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season.

Speaking after completing the move, the former Liverpool captain said Alonso’s presence played a significant role in his decision.

“Given the size of the club, the manager who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Henderson said.

“For me, it’s about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I’m very excited to get going.”

Henderson brings a wealth of experience to west London after an illustrious career with Liverpool, where he captained the Reds to their first Premier League title in 30 years in 2020. During his time at Anfield, he also lifted the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

After leaving Liverpool in 2023, Henderson spent a brief spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq before joining Ajax in January 2024. He returned to the Premier League last summer with Brentford before securing his latest move to Chelsea.

The midfielder, who came through Sunderland’s academy, made his Premier League debut against Chelsea in November 2008. Almost 18 years later, he returns to west London as a Chelsea player, bringing leadership and top-level experience to Alonso’s evolving squad.
