As reported by RMC Sport, Chelsea are set to complete the transfer of Mamadou Sarr (19) from partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace. L’Équipe have now provided more details of the impending deal.

Sarr will complete his move to Stamford Bridge soon before then being loaned back to Strasbourg, at least until the end of the season and perhaps even beyond. The deal is worth €20m, double what Les Alsaciens paid to prise the young French centre-back away from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer.

He will sign a long-term deal at Chelsea and his return to RCSA will be facilitated through the termination of Caleb Wiley’s loan. The Premier League side currently have three players on loan in Alsace (Wiley, Andrey Santos, and Djordje Petrovic), which is the maximum that can be loaned from any one club. It was therefore necessary to cut one loan deal short.

Currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, the termination of Wiley’s loan was the logical solution to allow Sarr to continue his development in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg.
