Chelsea’s pursuit of former PSG standout Xavi Simons has hit a roadblock. The club still needs to offload players who aren’t in their plans, and that delay has given Tottenham Hotspur an opening to step in.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported that RB Leipzig have accepted an €80 million bid for Simons, with €55 million payable upfront. The 22-year-old is under contract with Leipzig until June 2027. Furthermore, PSG included a sell-on clause to secure a portion of any future transfer.
That clause has already proven lucrative. As Adam Crafton of The Athletic highlighted, PSG earned €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool thanks to a similar arrangement.

Tottenham are advancing with Simons, who is in London to clarify his future, journalist Ben Jacobs reports.
Simons has prioritized Chelsea after agreeing to personal terms. However, the clubs have yet to agree on a fee. He is also open to a move to Spurs, as RB Leipzig has set an asking price of at least €65 million.

SPORTBILD recently reported that Tottenham are “very serious” about signing Simons, with Spurs and RB Leipzig maintaining a strong working relationship—especially between Daniel Levy and Oliver Mintzlaff.
The deal will hinge on convincing Simons, who currently earns €11 million a year and has high salary demands. RB Leipzig are reportedly willing to negotiate his sale.
