Maresca defends Mudryk after failed drugs test
Chelsea suffered a damaging defeat to Flamengo in their second match of the Club World Cup group stages, having led until the 62nd minute before rapidly imploding.
Enzo Maresca’s side opened the competition with a 2-0 win over LAFC earlier this week but could not replicate that today in Philadelphia.
Instead it was the Brazilian side who took the spoils, coming from behind to score twice in a chaotic six minute spell after Pedro Neto put Chelsea ahead inside the first 15 minutes.
Flamengo substitute Bruno Henrique scored a tap-in to equalise and minutes later turned provider as Danilo put the ‘home’ side in front, roared on by a vocal contingent of travelling fans.
Another substitute, this time Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, was then sent off a mere four minutes after coming on for stamping on Ayrton Lucas’ shin, and the remarkable turnaround was complete as another sub, 20-year-old Wallace Yan, scored his first goal for the side inside the final 10 minutes of normal time.
Short and to the point from the Chelsea boss, who tells DAZN: “What do I think? It was a red card, nothing to say.”
He has not spoken to Jackson yet, he added.

Former Chelsea man Jorginho tells DAZN, “I think it says it all. For the game and how it was, we played good football and did really well on the pitch. When we had to wait, we waited. When we had to press, we put them in trouble. We worked a lot on how we could hurt them, we believe in what we do and we push all together.
“We were really confident and we know in these big games the details make the difference. Overall we were really good in the first half so we said, ‘let's keep pushing’ [at half-time].
“We pushed in the first half and it worked so we knew we needed to do more in the second half and that is what we did. We found the little spots that could hurt them.”
Asked what those vulnerabilities were, he jokes, “Secret!” But doesn’t elaborate.

Elsewhere, Benfica battered Auckland City 6-0 in Group C and that means the New Zealand part-timers are out of the tournament.

Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel on DAZN has some strong words on that red card: “It was unbelievable from Nicolas Jackson. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don't know what was going through his head.
“You come into the game and you are 2-1 down. Your team needs you and you let them down.
“He did it in an important Premier League game at Newcastle when they were fighting for the Champions League places, and he has done it again.”

South American sides are unbeaten in this Club World Cup so far and you can tell it meant a lot to Flamengo - and their very appreciative travelling fans.
“I'm really happy,” Filipe Luis says on DAZN. “We believed that we would have chances and I am really proud. Bruno [Henrique] is special. It doesn't matter if he plays one minute or 90, he always gives his heart.”

34-year-old Henrique and 33-year-old Danilo scored Flamengo’s first two and it was youngster Wallace Yan who put the icing on the cake.
Hugs and smiles all round as the players celebrate with Filipe Luis. A great second half by them and a distinctly poor one from Chelsea.

90+6 mins: Wallace goes driving down the left but eventually loses possession under pressure from Gusto.
Flamengo manager Filipe Luis, who has made some inspired substitutions, is still shouting instructions at his men.
Chalobah and Colwill are roundly booed by the hordes of Flamengo fans as they count down the seconds.

90+4 mins: Plata was given a yellow then for taking his time leaving the pitch.
Madueke goes flying in the penalty area but he’s simply carrying too much momentum, no chance of a card or penalty there.
Substitute and goalscorer Bruno Henrique is designated the Superior Player of the Match, an inferior way of saying Man of the Match.
He then immediately fouls Cucurella and that looked a bit touch and go... the ref keeps his cards in his pocket.
