There is a huge amount of excitement around Chelsea at the moment, and you can understand why.
The Blues ended the season strong, made it into the Champions League for next season, have a host of new players already coming to join them, and also have several further deals in the works.
All in all, there’s a lot to be excited about, and a lot of hope we can start next season with a really strong squad.

But one can’t lose focus on the negatives too. For all the quality additions we can make, there’s a huge task at hand in moving on some of the unwanted players on the books.
The first reminder of that comes today, with Arsenal’s announcement that Raheem Sterling’s loan deal has ended, meaning that problem is back on our agenda. Them buying him permanently never seemed on the cards – they barely used him, even when injuries hit them really badly.
After struggling to sell him last summer, it felt pretty miraculous we managed to even loan him. Now we face the same issue again. His monster wages both make him number one priority to get rid of, and make him a very unattractive target for anyone we might want to sell him to. It’s a very tough situation, and we wonder what their approach will be this summer.
Keeping him exiled from the first team squad will push him towards the exit, but it’s not going to make him accept a wage drop beyond a certain point. The sporting directors are going to have to get very creative to find a way out of this sticky situation.
