After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal before the international break, Chelsea returns to action with another London derby. On Thursday, they host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. The Blues won the reverse fixture 4-3 in December, a thrilling encounter that saw them claim all three points in North London.
Enzo Maresca has received some positive news ahead of the match, as Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke are all fit to feature. However, Romeo Lavia has suffered a setback, putting his availability in doubt. Club captain Reece James, meanwhile, is ready to go after celebrating his first England start in over two years with his first international goal.
Sánchez has endured a rough spell since joining Chelsea, with his performances often leaving fans frustrated. Despite his struggles, Maresca continues to trust him. Even though his poor positioning contributed to Arsenal’s winning goal last time out, capping yet another awful performance, he is still expected to keep his place.
With over 10 days since his last start for England, James should be fresh. Chelsea has been managing his game time carefully, and while he played with more attacking freedom for England, he is expected to have a more central role in Maresca’s setup.
Fofana’s long-term injury was a major blow to Chelsea’s defensive stability. Since his return, he has been deployed at right-back, but he is likely to move back to his natural center-back position for this clash.
The academy graduate built a solid partnership with Fofana before the latter's injury in December. While he had his struggles in recent months, this game presents an opportunity to reignite that defensive pairing.
The Spanish full-back had a successful international break, helping Spain qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals. One of Chelsea’s most consistent performers this season, he is expected to retain his spot in the lineup.
Caicedo had the weekend off after returning from South America as Chelsea was not in action, which should help him recover from his World Cup qualifying duties. A crucial figure in Chelsea’s midfield, he will once again be relied upon to control the game.
Fernández enjoyed an excellent international break, starring in Argentina’s victory over Brazil with a goal and an assist. He was also on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture against Spurs and should be well-rested after the international break.
The former Tottenham youth player has been sidelined since mid-February but is back in contention. Given the underwhelming performances of Chelsea’s other wide options in his absence, he could reclaim his starting spot.
After an electric start to the season, Palmer has gone 10 games without a goal contribution. An injury kept him out before the international break, but he should be fit and ready. He was Chelsea’s standout performer in the reverse fixture, and Maresca will hope he can rediscover that form.
While Neto did a decent job filling in as a forward, his best position remains out wide. With Christopher Nkunku and Jadon Sancho struggling, the Portuguese winger is expected to start once again.
Jackson has not played since February 4th due to injury. After a strong start to the season, his finishing inconsistencies resurfaced in December. However, his link-up play and movement were vital to Chelsea’s attack, and his absence has been felt. Now fully fit, he is set to lead the line at Stamford Bridge.
