Chelsea’s stance on defender Levi Colwill hasn’t changed despite his recent poor form according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
The Blues are currently in the midst of a difficult run and following their 3-0 defeat to Brighton last week, it’s now just two wins from their last nine league matches.
Enzo Maresca’s men have been struggling for goals recently and are continuing to make mistakes at the back, with Colwill making some costly errors.
Colwill is regarded as one of the most exciting talents to come out of the Chelsea academy and has been backed by Maresca to become a future club captain.
The 21-year-old signed a new long term contract with the club in the summer of 2023, despite strong interest from the likes of Brighton and Liverpool.
The England international has started 23 of Chelsea’s 25 Premier League games and has been a mainstay in the side, and part of Maresca’s first choice centre back pairing alongside Wesley Fofana.

Despite starting the season well , Colwill has come in for criticism following costly errors against both West Ham and Brighton which led to goals.
The Blues have a plethora of centre backs to chose from and are likely to sign another one in the summer, with the club keen on resigning Marc Guehi.
Colwill is generally considered as an important part of the Chelsea project going forward and Bailey has said the club’s stance hasn’t changed amid his recent struggles.
“From what I’ve seen, I think he’s been attacked in the media,” he told The Chelsea Chronicle.
“Not heard anything about him. The whole squad is constantly under review, I haven’t heard there’s been any disappointment in Colwill.

“I think he’s had a pretty good season. I think they’ll want to add to the defence, but Colwill isn’t one of the ones on the chopping block.”
Chelsea could do with Colwill and his team-mates returning to form and putting in a performance as they face a difficult trip to Aston Villa on Saturday in need of three points.
