Just hours before the USMNT plays its final group match against Turkey, Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of decisions to make.
The first is whether to rotate the squad against the Turkish side, no matter what happens, the US has already secured first place in the group.
The second concerns Christian Pulisic and his fitness after he did not play a single minute against Australia last week. The USMNT has indeed proven that they are not Pulisic-dependent and they can play good football without him on the field.
Despite this, every US fan wants to see Captain America on the field.
During a recent press conference, Christian Pulisic was asked about his health status, and the response from the USMNT number ten was more than enjoyable.
The AC Milan forward did not hesitate when asked and simply replied, "Yes." That makes one thing clear: the striker has recovered in time for the final match of the group stage.
However, the real question is how fully fit he actually is. After all, the coach's decision is usually more objective, while the player will always want to be on the field, especially in a tournament as prestigious as the World Cup.
If I were Pochettino, I wouldn’t put Captain America from the start, and depending on how physical the game turns, I would put him in the last 15 minutes at the top.
Why is this? Because of the last clash, you are playing for nothing. You already qualified, so you would just be risking your players to an injury ahead of the elimination rounds.
Additionally, since Pulisic is still recovering from his calf injury, it makes little sense to risk him in a match with nothing at stake, especially given the physical style of the Turkish team.
Ultimately, even if Pulisic put pressure with this statement, Mauricio Pochettino has the last word on the lineup.
