Pep Guardiola’s City side have started the 2025/26 Premier League with four wins from our first seven games.
With a draw and two defeats, we’re on 13 points and in fifth place in the table.
However, having won three and drawn one of our last four – we’ve enjoyed a positive run of form in recent weeks and now sit three points off the leaders.
There’s a long way to go and only a relatively small sample size at the moment, but could the stats so far point to any trends we’ll see for the rest of the term?
With club football currently on a break while World Cup qualifiers take centre stage, we take a look at the numbers that have defined our league campaign to date.
With 15 goals, we’ve scored more than anyone else in the division.
That’s been led by Erling Haaland, who is the early pace setter in the Golden Boot race, having scored nine times.
That’s more than nine clubs across the division have managed in total.
11 of those goals have earned a player an assist credit. They’ve been spread across the squad, with Jeremy Doku on three, Tijjani Reijnders on two and eight with one.
We’re not top for expected goals though, with our 15 goals coming from a 12.21xG. Manchester United and Crystal Palace are ahead of us there, but both have scored six fewer goals.
In total we’ve had 68 shots, which is the fourth most in the league – with Manchester United taking 82.
Only four sides have conceded fewer goals than our six, with just two goals going in our last four games.
Gianluigi Donnarumma has kept two clean sheets already, with James Trafford shutting out Wolves on the opening weekend.
With an expected goals against of 7.1, that suggests our goalkeepers are outperforming their expectation so far.
Given the fact we often have more of the ball than the opposition, we rarely top the charts for metrics like interceptions, blocks and duels won.
That has remained the case despite the discussion around a tweak in style, with 47 interceptions, 18 blocks and 350 duels won leaving us in the lower half of the league for each.
When it comes to discipline, only three sides have fewer yellow cards than our 10 while we’re one of 12 sides yet to receive a red card.
Again, despite a widely reported change in style, City have still completed more passes than anyone else in the Premier League.
We’ve played 3,785 in our seven games so far, averaging at 540 per game. That’s slightly ahead of Chelsea, who have played 3,737 to this point.
We’re not top in terms of possession though, with an average of 57% of the ball and behind Aston Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
No City player features in the top 15 for passes completed, with Ruben Dias 16th on 404.
That’s outside of the norm of recent seasons, with Dias, Rodri and Josko Gvardiol often amongst the league leaders.
