Venezuela have overhauled their coaching set-up for the next World Cup cycle, with the Venezuelan Football Federation announcing that Cléber Xavier has joined as assistant coach.
Xavier, long-time deputy to Tite at Flamengo, Corinthians and Brazil, will work on a staff led by former Venezuela player Oswaldo Vizcarrondo.
After leaving Flamengo, Xavier pursued a first head coach role at Santos. Results did not follow, and he was sacked by the São Paulo club.
His remit now is to help guide Venezuela to a first World Cup, after falling just short in 2026. The side remain the only South American nation yet to compete at a World Cup.
Flamengo, Xavier’s former club, continue their season preparations and face Vasco at the Maracanã on Wednesday at 21:30 Brasília time in the Campeonato Carioca.
