Cole Palmer has set a new Premier League record after netting a hat-trick against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.
The playmaker converted two penalties before adding a third from open play to announce his return to form after months of struggling with injuries.
Tolu Arokodare did pull one back after the break but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the Blues ran out 3-1 winners, condemning Wanderers to their 19th Premier League defeat of the season.
Palmer is no stranger to quickfire trebles, with three of his four hat-tricks for Chelsea coming in the first half of a game.
That makes him the first player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half of a match, an absolutely extraordinary record to hold.
Palmer previously scored three goals in the opening period against Everton in April 2024 and Brighton in September 2024, when he became the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League match.
Liam Rosenior hailed his star man’s ability from the spotin his post-match press conference. “When you have a player like Cole Palmer you’re glad he’s your penalty taker because he’s fantastic,” he said
“he’s a fantastic player, but I think he gets the goals because it was a fantastic team performance. It created those moments for him. Because he’s a world class player he takes those moments.”
Rosenior also told BBC Match of the Day: “Cole loves playing football. I love watching. Not just him – the whole team. When they’re in the mood and when they do the right thing and their mentality is right, they’re an outstanding group of players. And Cole is definitely someone that we want on the pitch more often than not. And hopefully he can stay fit now.”
