Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer will not return to action immediately after the international break (h/t the Daily Mail).
The Blues are expected to navigate at least five games before he is available again.
After playing 48 games in his debut season at Chelsea, he played 52 matches last term with barely any breaks in between because of the European Championship.
Palmer also didn’t get an extended break this summer due to the Club World Cup, and his groin problem has been giving him issues for some time.
Hopefully, he does not need surgery and can return fit, ready to spearhead the Blues once again.
Palmer’s absence opens the door for Facundo Buonanotte to prove his mettle following his move to Stamford Bridge on loan.
He was brought in to cover for Palmer and needs to seize this opportunity.
The young Argentine has shown flashes of promise in his limited outings, but this could be the moment that defines his Chelsea career.
With Palmer sidelined and attacking creativity in short supply, Buonanotte must step up and show that he can influence games at the top level.
He possesses the technical flair and intelligence to excel in advanced roles, but he needs to be more decisive and assertive in critical moments.
Fixtures versus Nottingham Forest, Ajax, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur are his chance to stamp his authority.
If he delivers, he could emerge from this period as far more than a rotation option.
