The return of Jamal Musiala is taking shape at FC Bayern and coach Vincent Kompany is optimistic

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has outlined a clear timeframe for Jamal Musiala’s comeback ahead of the Bundesliga home game against Mainz – and struck a cautiously optimistic note

Musiala has been working intensively on the pitch individually for weeks, and now the next step is imminent. When asked about a return to team training, Kompany explained: „Jamal is close. Hopefully next week. But I’ll say quite clearly: zero pressure on Jamal and the medical department. But hopefully it will work out with a few training sessions before Christmas. That would just be nice in terms of feeling – for the team and for him. And then his first match minutes should follow in January. That would be such an ideal plan for us.“

One thing is clear: FC Bayern is taking a deliberately cautious approach with its exceptional player. If all goes well, Musiala should be back training with the team before the holidays, but competitive matches are not planned until January. A premature start is expressly not on the cards

It remains to be seen whether Musiala will be able to make his comeback in Bayern’s first match of the new year on 6 January in a test match at RB Salzburg or five days later in the Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg. The only decisive factor is how his body reacts to the upcoming strain

Musiala should start team training soon

For the 22-year-old, his return would mark the end of months of suffering. At the beginning of July, he suffered a fractured fibula and ankle dislocation in the quarter-final of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. In January, it will already be six months since the serious injury

On Saturday, Musiala worked individually with rehab coach Simon Martinello and assistant coach Floribert Ngalula before the team’s final training session. But that is set to change soon. The transition to team training is approaching – and with it the prospect of playing his first minutes in the new year.
