Manchester United are desperate to move players on this January so as to raise capital to steer clear of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules while using that money to try and bring in reinforcements for coach Ruben Amorim.
Due to the Red Devils being in 13th position in the Premier League, almost the whole squad has been put up for sale including plenty of big-name stars.
Marcus Rashford was one of them, with the Mancunian attracting plenty of interest from Italy with new boys Como FC emerging as surprise suitors.
However, the Englishman has turned down a move to join Cesc Fabregas’ side with AC Milan and Barcelona currently leading the race.
But Como are not done yet with journalist Alfredo Pedulla now revealing that the Italian big-spenders are eyeing Rashford’s teammate and good friend, Tyrell Malacia this January.
“Como does not stop, absolutely unleashed on the market. There is a new target for the left flank, it is Tyrell Malacia, left back born in 1999 owned by Manchester United.
“The Red Devils had purchased him in the summer of 2022 from Feyenoord for around 15 million: there are other suitors for Malacia, but Como is working on it to give a new pawn to Fabregas.”
The Dutchman, who became former manager Erik ten Hag’s first signing at the club, has struggled for form since his return from long-term injury.
The 25-year-old has started four times under Amorim, not lasting more than 60 minutes while being substituted at half-time in three of those games.
It is clear that the former Feyenoord star needs more time to return to his best with Malacia currently looking like he has lost more than a yard of pace while also struggling fitness-wise, a natural repercussion of a knee injury that kept him out of action for over a season.
But Amorim cannot afford the luxury of time given United’s current predicament and he has asked for reinforcements at left wingback, having been forced to play Diogo Dalot in that position despite his preference for the right flank.
The report does not make clear whether Como will acquire the Netherlands international on a permanent basis or on loan. Nor does it reveal their bid amount.
There is also interest in the defender from fellow Serie A side Juventus as well as Germany, and France and it will be intriguing to see if Malacia actually makes way this winter window.
