CONCACAF and AFC oppose World Cup privatisation plan | OneFootball

CONCACAF and the AFC have joined UEFA in opposing FIFA’s plan to privatise the World Cup, citing a lack of transparency and consultation around the FIFA Forwards Enterprise proposal.

According to SuperDepor.com, both confederations criticised the way the project was unveiled by FIFA, led by president Gianni Infantino, and said they had not been properly engaged.

The AFC said it was not consulted and was disappointed the proposal entered the public domain before its members could examine it through established governance channels. It nonetheless acknowledged the value of exploring innovative approaches to strengthen football’s future.

The Asian body added that any move capable of reshaping the sport’s commercial and financial landscape must be underpinned by thorough, prior consultation with confederations, member associations and other relevant stakeholders before reaching decision-making bodies.

CONCACAF voiced deep concern over the absence of due process in the notification of the FIFA Forwards Enterprise proposal and shared disappointment that detailed plans were made public before discussions with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

It said decisions should be guided by good governance, sound processes and long-term stewardship, adding that this is how CONCACAF operates and expressing confidence the wider FIFA family will act similarly.
