Manchester City are aiming for a seventh consecutive win in all competitions as they welcome Nottingham Forest to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Blues continue to build momentum at the perfect moment in the season, remaining Arsenal’s closest title challengers as the campaign enters its defining phase.
Antoine Semenyo proved his worth once again at Elland Road on Saturday, netting the only goal of the game against Leeds United to hand City a sixth consecutive win across all competitions.
Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic remain ruled out while Nico O’Reilly – so impressive throughout City’s recent run – was also a doubt ahead of the game after going off against Leeds United with an ankle injury.
City still trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by five points, though a game in hand means a victory tonight will close the gap to just two. Guardiola will also have one eye on an impending UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid – but the Catalan has made no secret of his desire to take each game as it comes.
Standing in their way is a Nottingham Forest side in desperate straits. New manager Vitor Pereira – the club’s fourth appointment of the season – is yet to pick up a single Premier League point since replacing Sean Dyche and Forest sit just two points above the relegation zone heading into Wednesday’s encounter.
A 2-1 defeat at Brighton last weekend extended their winless run to five league matches, with key striker Chris Wood sidelined until mid-April with a knee injury. Willy Boly and Murillo are also absent through injury, further depleting a defence that has conceded 41 goals in 28 league outings this season.
Ahead of Wednesday’s 19:30 UK kick-off between Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, here are the confirmed lineups from the Etihad Stadium:
Starting XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Ait-Nouri, Rodri, Silva, Semenyo, Cherki, Foden, Haaland
