Borussia Dortmund faces CF Monterrey in the last match of the round of sixteen at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament, set to take place within the next hour, 21.00 (EDT) / 03.00 (CET) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Niko Kovač's Dortmund side finished the group stage with an unbeaten record, winning Group F with a 0-0 draw against Fluminense and two victories, 4-3 against Mamelodi Sundowns and 1-0 against Ulsan HD FC.
Kovač's formation shifts slightly, from the 3-4-1-2 that Dortmund used in the victory against Ulsan, to a 3-4-3. Gregor Köbel starts in goal for the fourth consecutive Club World Cup match. Ramy Bensebaini and Waldemar Anton start at LB and CB, but the RB position changes, as Niklas Süle will start instead of Julian Ryerson. Ryerson takes the place of Yan Couto and moves up to RM, joining Daniel Svensson, Lukas Nmecha, and Pascal Groß in the midfield. Jobe Bellingham moves to the forward line from CAM, and will be at RW, with Karim Adeyemi and Serhou Guirassy playing at LW and CF.
Domènec Torrent's Monterrey finished second in Group E, but also with an undefeated record - two draws against Inter Milan (1-1) and River Plate (0-0) and a victory against Urawa Reds (4-0). They are the only team remaining from CONCACAF in this tournament, and should they win, four continents will be represented in the quarterfinals.
Torrent has changed the formation from a 4-3-1-2 to a 4-1-2-3. Esteban Andrada, who has conceded only one goal in this tournament, starts in goal for the fourth consecutive match. Along the back line, Gerardo Arteaga replaces Luis Reyes at LB, and Érick Aguirre replaces Ricardo Chávez at RB; the two centre-backs stay the same, these being Sergio Ramos and Stefan Medina. As the formation has changed, Fidel Ambríz will not be playing in the XI this evening, with Jorge Rodríguez entering at CDM. Sergio Canales starts at LM, and Nelson Deossa, who scored in the Urawa match, remains at RM. Óliver Torres, who was at LM for the Urawa match, moves up to LW, taking the place of Alfonso Alvarado. Germán Berterame starts at CF and Jesús Corona will start at RW.
The winning team faces Real Madrid CF in the fourth quarterfinal, set to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, where the semifinal and final matches will also be held over the next two weeks. The quarterfinal will be on Saturday, 5. July at 16.00 (EDT) / 22.00 (CET).
