The English media have been left unimpressed with the performance of Cole Palmer for England against Japan.

He was on the losing side last night after being given a start by manager Thomas Tuchel, and it was also Palmer who gave the ball away that led to the only goal of the game from Japan that happened to be the winning goal.

Japan made history by beating England for the first time ever, so the English media are very unhappy about it all.

Palmer gave the ball away in an attacking position and there was lots of other England players behind him and lots of football to be played before Japan got the ball into the net.

In quotes picked up and collected by The Chelsea Chronicle….

BBC – The Chelsea attacker was given the nod as the number 10 over Phil Foden who played as a false nine. There was always a sense that something could happen when Palmer was on the ball. However, he was caught on the ball and punished for Japan’s opener. Came off just before the hour mark. 6

GOAL – Afforded full creative licence as the starting No.10 but made very little, consistently lost possession and cheaply gave the ball away leading to Mitoma’s goal. Hooked for Bowen. 4

FourFourTwo – A tough night for the Chelsea man. Robbed of possession by Mitoma – who then scored from the resulting counter attack – he then almost tried too hard to exert his influence and ended up over-hitting a free-kick before half-time that really summed up his game to that point.

In other news today…

Chelsea have already made two new signings who are arriving in the summer, one winger and one striker. Although it’s being debated that they aren’t quite the ‘Estevao level’ of signings this week.

It’s also being claimed that Chelsea will now look to sign more ‘ready-made’ stars and are even looking to tweak their transfer model a bit in the wake of the criticism received from their own player, Marc Cucurella, earlier this week.
