As reported by Fabrizio Romano and BILD, Joshua Kimmich is now close to officially signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich.

The back-and-forth saga between the player and the club looks set to be settled. For some time, it looked as if Kimmich would leave on a free transfer in the summer. Last week, an original offer was withdrawn from the club after Kimmich stalled on his answer. Mix that with reports of the player talking to the likes of Arsenal, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid, and it appeared the player was looking towards the exit door.

However, Kimmich finally seems to have made his mind up. All documents are now being exchanged, with just signatures pending.

Kimmich’s new deal at Bayern will be valid until June 2029.

The truth is that Bayern have been more than lenient with Kimmich throughout this entire process. They’ve allowed the player to take his time and even explore other options while maintaining contact with the club.

During this time, Bayern was even complimentary about Kimmich. Sporting director Max Eberl explained that Kimmich could, if he wanted to, become a modern legend of Bayern – similar to that of Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer.

The long game has paid off for the club, which is keeping a world-class player. Ultimately, you could argue that Kimmich is also making the correct decision. It’s clear that the club rates him and sees him as someone who can step into a more senior leadership role in the near future.

What’s more, it’s obvious that Bayern are building for the future. They’ve recently announced the contract extensions of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Dayot Upamecano while on the cusp of winning a title. You can now shortly add Kimmich to that impressive list.
