Although FC Barcelona have taken concrete steps to secure the long-term continuity of several first-team players, there are still a few cases within the squad where the immediate future remains uncertain.

One of those situations involves young midfielder Marc Bernal, whose outlook has evolved significantly in recent days.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keeping all options open regarding Bernal and would be willing to facilitate a loan move during the winter transfer window if the player himself requests it.

The club’s stance marks a shift from earlier weeks and places the final decision largely in the hands of the midfielder, with upcoming matches expected to play a key role in shaping the outcome.

A particularly important reference point will be the Copa del Rey clash against Racing Santander at El Sardinero. While the match will not be decisive on its own, it is expected to be indicative of the role Hansi Flick envisions for Bernal in the coming weeks.

The German coach’s level of trust and the minutes he offers will strongly influence whether the player stays or considers a temporary departure.

Bernal is keen to play regularly after losing much of last year to a serious knee injury suffered in 2024. His priority is to regain rhythm and competitive continuity, something that has not always been easy in a Barcelona midfield filled with established options.

Flick’s recent decisions have encouraged the player, as he has gradually been reintegrated into the rotation and given meaningful minutes toward the end of 2025.

The midfielder has featured prominently in recent outings, playing close to half an hour against Real Betis, starting in the Copa del Rey against Guadalajara, and appearing off the bench against Villarreal.

Although he did not feature against Espanyol, he again saw action in the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Club. These appearances suggested that Bernal was moving up in importance within the squad and reinforced his initial plan to remain at the club.

However, a reduction in minutes could quickly change the picture. Should Bernal feel his development is at risk, a loan move would become a serious option.

Girona have consistently shown interest in signing him and remain well-positioned, but they are not alone. Several clubs from La Liga and other European leagues have already made inquiries, and Bernal would ultimately have the final say on any potential destination.

The coming weeks will therefore be crucial. Barcelona have a demanding schedule before the winter window closes, with fixtures across La Liga, the Champions League, the Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey.

How much Bernal features in these matches will likely determine whether he continues his progression at Barça or seeks regular football elsewhere until the end of the season.
