His assessment

We didn't play well. The start was adequate; in the first 15 minutes, we showed promise. Then we conceded the penalty, which was a blow that punished us. The team fell apart in both attack and defence, and we didn't compete at the required level. There were 600 people in the stands; we had to give our all for them.

The gameplan

We had to be able to defend well. Real Madrid are a very difficult team to press because you can't leave yourself exposed to their speed. We wanted to limit what happened behind our defence, extend our attacks, and maintain a low, mid-block. We weren't able to transition, except for one move in the opening minutes by Danjuma. We couldn't get out of our own half, and we only managed a few positional attacks.

His intentions with the second-half substitutions?

I wanted to try to get us tighter with a line of five, because they were causing us problems when we played with four at the back.

Analysis of the dynamics

We are all aware of the responsibility we have, and particularly in my case the responsibility of my job. We have to analyse the match we played today. We can't take much that is positive from it; we have to work to compete better in the next game. It's our obligation.

As we started with a line of four, we needed midfielders with different characteristics than Javi Guerra; we expected a similar impact to the one he had in the match against Girona. We had to adjust the formation; we couldn't force that change until the final minutes.

What analysis can we make beyond the result? Today we underperformed; we didn't compete at the required level. That's the consequence of not being present. More than 600 people travelled to the Santiago Bernabéu to support us.
