Corentin Tolisso reflects on becoming Lyon’s legitimate leader under Fabio Grosso | OneFootball

Corentin Tolisso has reflected on assuming Lyon’s armband, saying a decisive shift came in November 2023 at Rennes.

Speaking to Le Progres, he admitted feeling uneasy at first about taking the captaincy from his friend Alexandre Lacazette, adding: "Alex embodied the role perfectly. He was so strong, meant so much to Lyon that he did not need to talk much to carry others. You felt it when he was not there..."

He continued: "But it went well. As soon as you become captain, people talk to you about many more things, you have to make decisions about the group and everyday matters, there are responsibilities."

Lyon supporters have widely hailed Tolisso as the dressing-room reference point, and he says he now feels legitimate in the role under Fabio Grosso.

He also underlined his complementarity with Moussa Niakhaté and the satisfaction he takes from passing on know-how to the club’s young professionals, whose attitude he praised.
