Corinthians’ oversight body, Cori, has challenged Deliberative Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior after he halted a meeting and moved a proposed statute reform to the club’s General Assembly.
The session on Monday descended into confusion, with Tuma stating that councillors refused to vote before closing proceedings and forwarding the draft to members.
In a note on Tuesday, Cori labelled the move illegitimate. It says there was no refusal to vote and that, while some sought a postponement, the plenary did not decide on that request. Early in the process, club president Osmar Stabile accused Tuma of intimidation and interference in the board’s management.
Tuma based his decision on article 45 of the current statute, which allows the Assembly to approve amendments once the Deliberative Council has first recognised the need for change. Cori argues that such prior recognition did not occur, so the referral breaches the statute.
Cori also contends the CD’s internal rules were ignored, saying the president ended the meeting unilaterally without debate, contrary to article 12 that sets out how and when discussion may be closed.
Members are due to consider the commission’s draft, which covers Fiel Torcedor voting rights, the possibility of a SAF, electoral systems and governance practices.
