Corinthians academy striker ruled out for Sport clash in the Brasileirão

Corinthians defeated Fluminense on the night of last Saturday, September 13, at Maracanã Stadium, in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship, with a score of 1-0. Right-back Matheuzinho scored the Corinthians goal in the final stretch of the second half after a free kick. With this result, the Alvinegro rose to ninth place with 29 points (seven wins, eight draws, and eight losses – 24 goals scored and 28 conceded).

Despite the three points, the Corinthians coaching staff has another absence for the next match. This time it’s forward Gui Negão, who received his third yellow card halfway through the second half and will not face Sport next Sunday, September 21, at 5:30 pm (Brasília time), at Ilha do Retiro, for the 24th round of the Brasileirão.

Shortly after, coach Dorival Júnior brought on forward Ángel Romero in place of the young Corinthians striker. Gui Negão, recently promoted to the first team, has become a “homegrown reinforcement” for Corinthians amid the club’s financial difficulties, which prevent major investments.

His debut with the professional squad took place at the beginning of June, in a goalless draw against Vitória at Neo Química Arena, in the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. He had already been training with the senior team since then and firmly established himself among the professionals after the Club World Cup break in the United States.

So far, he has played 11 matches in the Corinthians shirt – seven as a starter – with four goals scored and one assist. His good performance earned Gui Negão a contract renewal until mid-2030. Born in the East Zone of São Paulo and with Corinthians since childhood, he has 24 goals in 99 games, considering the U-17 and U-20 categories.
