Corinthians beat Bauru, face Pinheiros in Paulista quarters

On the night of Thursday, the 18th, Corinthians returned to the court for the Men's Paulista Basketball Championship. In the last round of the realignment phase, Timão visited Bauru Basket at the Panela de Pressão Gymnasium and, dominating the game for most of the time, secured an important 80 x 68 victory to guarantee third place in Group A.

Now, the Alvinegro will face Pinheiros in the state quarterfinals, which could go up to three games. The other matchups in the first knockout phase of the Paulista will be Sesi Franca vs. Rio Claro, Mogi Basquete vs. Paulistano, and São José vs. Bauru Basket. The dates and times of the matches will be announced this Friday, the 10th, by the Paulista Basketball Federation (FPB).

Coach Jece Leite sent a starting five to the court consisting of Elinho, Davaunta Thomas, Munford, Victão, and Gabriel Novaes. On the bench, Corinthians had Tico Faria, Alisson Venancio, Cauê Borges, Lucas Cardoso, Lucas Cauê, Kaique, Kauan Raymundo, and Jamelão available.

The duel began evenly, but Bauru imposed defensive solidity from the second minute, opening up a significant lead. Corinthians responded with plays from Lucas Cauê, Thomas, and Tico Faria, cutting the deficit to two points. However, the anxiety to tie the game led to rushed shots and offensive fouls, allowing Bauru to regain control and close the first quarter ahead, 18 x 16.

In the next quarter, Corinthians responded immediately with Munford turning the score around with a three-pointer, followed by Tico Faria extending it to 23 x 21. The game remained balanced with alternating leads until Daniel Lima of Bauru made a decisive play with a foul, putting his team back in front. Missed shots by Elinho and Munford in the final minutes allowed Bauru to extend the lead to 35 x 33 at halftime.

After halftime, the third quarter began with low offensive efficiency on both sides. Bauru took advantage and increased the lead to nine points with three-pointers from Gemerson. Corinthians responded midway through the quarter with Munford and Victão cutting the deficit to five points. After a timeout, Thomas and Lucas Cauê led the comeback, and Elinho was decisive with a three-pointer and free throws, turning the score to 54 x 51.

In the final period, Corinthians maintained control with Lucas Cauê opening the scoring and Elinho extending the lead to seven points with a layup. In a brilliant sequence, Elinho hit two consecutive three-pointers, opening up a 12-point lead. Bauru responded with Pedro Infante and Daniel Lima cutting the difference, but Thomas secured crucial free throws and the Alvinegro defense remained solid. In the final minutes, Lucas Cauê and Kauan sealed the Corinthians victory.
