Corinthians boost survival hopes, eye 2026 continental spots

After a delicate moment in the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians seems to have "turned the corner" in the last few rounds, securing seven out of the last nine points contested. With this, Timão managed to distance itself from the teams in the relegation zone and is gradually approaching the top six in the table, which guarantees a spot in the next Copa Libertadores.

This improvement is also reflected in the numbers from the UFMG Mathematics Department, which traditionally calculates the probabilities of relegation, qualification for continental tournaments, and title chances for the 20 teams in the Brasileirão. In the case of Corinthians, the indices have changed significantly in recent weeks, especially regarding relegation, which dropped from 25.1% in mid-August to just 5% currently.

Regarding continental tournaments, the challenge is greater in the Libertadores, although these chances have also increased, from 2.6% in August to 5.2% now. When calculating Timão's chances of going to the South American Cup, the situation changes, with probabilities jumping from 30.2% three weeks ago to 63.2% currently – the third highest among all clubs.

The People's Team started the Brasileirão calmly, even leading in the second round, but went through several rounds with unstable results, culminating in a recent streak where they won only one out of 11 matches. However, the team has been on a good streak since the end of August, defeating Vasco 3-2, drawing with Palmeiras 1-1, and overcoming Fluminense 1-0 in their last games.
