Corinthians coach defends Rodrigo Garro after quiet league outings | OneFootball

Corinthians drew 0-0 with Athletico Paranaense in round 21 of the Brasileirão on Thursday. Fernando Diniz rotated his side, leaving Rodrigo Garro on the bench before introducing him 33 minutes into the second half. After the match he defended the midfielder amid criticism.

According to Meu Timao, Garro trained as normal on Saturday and is expected to be available.

Diniz said the sample size on Garro this half of the year is very small, noting he has effectively played only two games and missed Remo last week due to suspension. He added the outing in Bahia was difficult for everyone. The coach believes Garro can be in good shape and have a strong second half.

The Argentine’s form had picked up under Diniz after a tricky start. Of his 13 goal contributions this season, nine have come with the new coach, one goal and eight assists. In 16 starts under Diniz, Garro has been on the losing side only three times.

Despite his brief cameo on Thursday, Garro left the pitch with a knock to his right foot.

Corinthians visit Internacional on Sunday at 19:30 at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre, the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16.
