The Corinthians Deliberative Council votes on Monday night on the possible expulsion of former president Augusto Melo from the club’s membership. The case follows unrest at Parque São Jorge on 31 May 2025, when supporters tried to reinstall him.
According to Meu Timao, the Ethics Commission has advised expulsion for a grave statutory breach, rejecting Melo’s defence and identifying him as the main political beneficiary of the attempted occupation. Acting council president Leonardo Pantaleão will chair the session.
The case centres on a group led by Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos, the council’s first secretary, which tried to overturn Melo’s impeachment by declaring her control of the chamber to replace interim leader Osmar Stabile.
Councillors will also weigh sanctions for colleagues. On Monday they will assess Maria Angela, Mario Mello Junior, Paulo Juricic and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé, with eight further cases set for eight June. Mario Mello and Ronaldo Tomé sit on the Ethics Commission.
The commission based its report on CCTV and staff testimony, and proposed penalties ranging from long suspensions to the loss of a council mandate. Melo told investigators he had no prior knowledge of the initiative led by Maria Angela.
The meeting opens at 18:00, with a second call at 19:00. The ballot is expected to be open and nominal. Entry will be barred to non-councillors, media and guests. If a majority backs the Ethics view, Melo would be expelled and any expelled councillor would forfeit their seat, with any return only via a later review.
