Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz has acknowledged a financial gulf to Flamengo, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, with his side set to contest the Supercopa do Brasil on 1 February.

"Financially there is no way Corinthians can compete with Flamengo, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro. No way. We are building a team at the lowest possible cost under a transfer ban. We have used loans and free transfers to put a squad together," he said, speaking to Rádio Bandeirantes.

"We will not be able to compete with Flamengo, who want to bring in Paquetá for millions, or with Cruzeiro, who signed Gerson as the biggest transfer in Brazilian football history. Palmeiras also have grand targets. We cannot kid anyone and say we will compete in the market," he added.

Flamengo face Corinthians on 1 February at 16:00 Brasília time at Mané Garrincha in the Federal District.

Flamengo are the reigning Brasileirão champions after sealing their ninth title in 2025. Corinthians beat Vasco in the Copa do Brasil final, setting up the Supercopa meeting.
