Corinthians duo on win over Vasco and Copa do Brasil triumph

On the late afternoon of this Saturday (21), Corinthians visited Vasco at the Maracanã Stadium for the second match of the Copa do Brasil final. In a balanced game, Timão relied on the strength of their attack and, with goals from Yuri Alberto and Memphis, won 2-1, securing their fourth championship in the competition – the previous titles were won in 1995, 2002, and 2009.

Right after the historic match, right-back Matheuzinho, who assisted the first Corinthians goal, analyzed the play to TV Globo: “Everything was studied about the opposing team. And I was fortunate to see the movement of Vasco's defenders, to see the movement of Yuri (Alberto) as well. And he was able to score (the goal) to start our journey.”

Midfielder Maycon also spoke after the title. He praised the presence of the Fiel at Maracanã to support the players. “They (the fans) make us feel their presence. What they do for us… I think we managed to give them a happy end of the year, after such a difficult year. This is our attempt throughout the year, to try to represent them in the best way. It was a very difficult year. Those inside know how hard it was. We managed to end the year with more attitude, thank God. It's a commitment we have to represent this jersey”, he said.

The player, on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, also assessed the season of the People's Team: “A difficult year, a turbulent year, a troubled year, with transfer bans, impeachment, and we managed to end the year well. I think the coaching staff deserves credit, Fabinho (Soldado) deserves great credit. Our players were committed, worked hard, and even in difficult times, we kept our heads in the right place to represent this team, and we succeeded.”
